San Bernardino Superior Court Opens Additional Children's Waiting Room
The San Bernardino Superior Court is pleased to announce the opening of its third Children’s Waiting Room on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, located at the Fontana Courthouse. Children’s waiting rooms are a drop-in, free service, designed to provide a supervised environment in which parents or guardians may leave their child(ren) while conducting business with the court. This program provides a safe place for children away from the courtroom, which can at times be an upsetting and frightening experience. The funding for the program is derived from a portion of first paper filing fee revenues deposited into the Trial Court Trust Fund (TCTF) and can only be spent on costs associated with operating a children’s waiting room.
Children must be at least 2. years old (toilet-trained) and up to 14 years of age. The Children’s Waiting Room is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to noon, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., (except court holidays). Waiting rooms are operated and staffed by a private vendor, Choices for Children, with credentialed and experienced childcare providers trained to interact positively with children, making them feel welcomed and safe. Accommodations are limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
The newest Children’s Waiting Room is located on the 2nd floor of the Fontana District Courthouse at 17780 Arrow Boulevard (across from the Landlord Tenant/Small Claims Clerk’s Office) in Fontana, California. The phone number is (909) 320-5174.
